In the afternoon of March 11th, experts from the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies(WFAS) and experts from Iran Ministry of Health and Medical Education held the "Second Video Conference of China-Iran Expert Group on TCM Treatment of COVID-19". Attendees from China were, Pro. Liu Baoyan, WFAS President, Chief Physician Li Guangxi of Guang'anmen Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Yang Yuyang, Executive Deputy Secretary-General of WFAS et al.. Six doctors of Iran, including Prof. Shams Ardakani, general director for traditional and complementary medicine of Iran Ministry of Health and Medical Education and advisor to the Minister), WFAS Vice-President Amir Hooman, attended the meeting.

Prior to March 4th, the two sides had the first video conference. WFAS invited Tong Xiaolin, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the leader of the medical treatment expert group of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, to join the meeting, introduced how Chinese experience and Chinese medicine worked in fighting against COVID-19.

This meeting discussed in detail the treatment plan and medication，involving in the treatment of fever and adjustment of medication according to different symptoms. An Iranian case was taken as an example. Experts from both sides discussed the patient's tongue image, symptoms, and lung CT results. Chinese experts analyzed the case in detail and recommended treatments. As of medication, Chinese experts introduced to Iran the clinical application of several Chinese medicine prescriptions and the role of Chinese patent medicines in the treatment of different stages of COVID-19, such as Huoxiangzhengqi Softgel, Jinhuaqinggan granules, Lianhuaqingwen capsules, Qingfei detox soup, etc. It is proposed that acupuncture is also a safe and effective treatment method in combination with the use of Chinese herbal medicine. Prof. Liu Baoyan introduced acupoints and adaptive symptoms of moxibustion to Iran based on Guidelines on Acupuncture and Moxibustion Intervention for COVID-19 (second edition). The Iranian side also carefully elaborated dietary precautions for healthy people in the prevention of COVID-19, and Chinese experts gave corresponding dietary plans.

Experts from Iran finally stated that they hope to start using traditional medicine treatment methods in Iran more and earlier through learning from China's successful experience. Prof. Liu Baoyan said in conclusion: "We are willing to share with the world the experience and achievements of TCM in China's fight against COVID-19. While maintaining regular video conferences with Iranian experts, we also hope to generalize this method to help TCM practitioners in othert countries learn from China’s experience, TCM diagnosis and treatment programs, and even conduct video consultations and case tracking. "
