Abstract: “The treament of orofacial diseases by acupuncture at Hegu(L4)” as a conclusion of Chinese medical clinical practice, is a representative of the theory of the selection of acupoints accordingto meridians pathway.Previous studies have shown that a competitive activity-dependent interaction between the orofacial and hand representations of motor cortex has been demonstrated,in which sensory afferents or not play an important role.Hand areas and orofacial areas over the mortor cortex and somatosensory cortex have some functional reorganization in physiologic and pathologic condition. Therefore, based on “the Treament of Orofacial Diseases by Acupuncture at Hegu”,the study of functional reorganization between hand areas and orofacial areas in recent 20 years are reviewed, and discuss the brain plasticity mechanism about “The treament of orofacial diseases by acupuncture at Hegu(L4)”in this paper.
