Abstract: Objective: To explore the clinical efficacy of acupuncture therapy of regulating menstruation and promoting gestation for premature ovarian insufficiency. Methods: According to self-control study design,48 cases were included. Acupuncture therapy of regulating menstruation and promoting gestation was applied; three times per week and three months were considered as one session. The follicle stimulating hormone(FSH), luteinizing hormone(LH), estradiol 2(E2), the number of ovarian follicles(AFC), Anti Mullerian hormone(AMH), TCM syndrome score and self-rating anxiety scale (SAS scores) were taken as the therapeutic indexes.

Results:  The total effective rate was 65%(26/40) after treatment. The level of FSH was significantly decreased after the treatment, and the difference was statistically significant (P <0.05). The FSH/LH was showed a narrowing trend, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After the treatment, E2 and AFC were significantly increased, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After 3 months of treatment, the level of FSH was still significantly decreased, and FSH/LH was still significantly reduced, and the levels of E2 and the number of AFC were also showed a rising trend, and all the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). After treatment, symptoms score of TCM significantly decreased, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05); after 3 months of treatment, the symptom scores of TCM were still significantly decreased, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). Conclusion: By complementing kidney essence, regulating Chong and Ren and regulating emotional treatment principle, acupuncture therapy of regulating menstruation and promoting gestation may reduce the level of FSH and the ratio of FSH/LH, and improve the level of E2 , and increase the number of AFC, and improve the symptoms of TCM. Its mechanism needs further study.
