Notification on the Academic Events of WFAS Belt & Road Tour on TCM Acupuncture-Moxibustion in Mauritius and Morocco

A. The background

Under the support of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, China Science and Technology Association and other departments, the WFAS Belt and Road Tour on TCM Acupuncture-Moxibustion series of activities, through high-end meetings, academic exchanges, visits, seminars and exhibitions and other forms to promote the innovation and development of Chinese medicine overseas, popularize and publicize the Chinese medicine culture, explore and promote the multi-level Chinese medicine exchanges and cooperation between China and the countries along the “Belt and Road”, and strive to use Chinese medicine and acupuncture as an entry point to promote the cooperation between China and foreign countries in the fields of politics, economy, trade, energy, investment, science and technology, and make Chinese medicine acupuncture a bright spot in cultural exchanges and people-to-people ties between China and other countries. By the end of 2018, the Belt and Road Tour on TCM Acupuncture-Moxibustion series of activities had been held in more than 30 stations in more than 20 countries, and was warmly welcomed by local governments, Chinese embassies and consulates, medical academic institutions, local people and overseas Chinese.

In 2017, WFAS Belt and Road Tour on TCM Acupuncture-Moxibustion series of activities came to Mauritius and South Africa in Africa, and received strong support from local government agencies, and effectively extended the influence of Chinese medicine acupuncture in Africa. The Ministry of Health and Quality of Life of Mauritius signed a tripartite cooperation agreement with the WFAS and the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The then President of Mauritius and the Chinese Ambassador to Mauritius highly supported the cooperation. In the past two years, the three parties have carried out substantive cooperation such as personnel exchange visits and acupuncture training. In late September 2019, WFAS will once again launch a Belt and Road Tour on TCM Acupuncture-Moxibustion activity in Africa to consolidate pioneering results, further extend the influence of Chinese medicine and acupuncture in Africa, and promote the traditional medicine cooperation between China and African countries, as well as in various fields such as economy and culture.

 

B. The events

Time: September 17-25, 2019

Location: Mauritius, Morocco

(1) The China-Mauritius Chinese Medicine Acupuncture Summit Forum will be held in Mauritius. The forum is jointly sponsored by WFAS, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life of Mauritius. Chinese acupuncture experts in China will promote traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture with local top medical and educational institutions such as the National Victoria Hospital of Mauritius and the University of Mauritius. The two countries will discuss their cooperation of the application and development of Chinese medicine and acupuncture in Mauritius, education, and scientific research, etc.

(2) WFAS Belt and Road Tour on TCM Acupuncture-Moxibustion Moroccan Station is jointly sponsored by WFAS and China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. It relies on local universities, Confucius Institutes and expatriate medical teams to conduct seminars, acupuncture themed lectures, free clinics and exhibitions and other activities for the promotion of Chinese medicine acupuncture knowledge and culture and exchanges between Chinese medicine acupuncture and Chinese culture in Morocco and North Africa.

 

C. The organizer

Established in 1987 with the support of the Chinese government and the World Health Organization, World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS) is an international Chinese acupuncture professional social organization headquartered in China. It now has 226 group members in 60 countries and regions. WFAS is a non-governmental organization that has established formal relations with the World Health Organization, and A liaison organization of the International Standards Organization Chinese Medicine Technical Committee (ISO/TC249). Over the past 30 years, WFAS has combined the new situation and requirements of acupuncture development with a focus on academic development, cooperation and dialogue, international exchanges, scientific research and innovation. It has held more than 40 world acupuncture academic conferences and international acupuncture seminars to promote the development of acupuncture academics. It has established a comprehensive work pattern of academic exchanges, education and training, standard setting, and proficiency test. It keeps promoting acupuncture and moxibustion to better integrate into the medical systems of countries around the world, and exerting the unique role of acupuncture in promoting health, making contributions to a human health community of shared destiny.

Founded in 1955, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences (CACMS, formerly known as China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine) is a comprehensive Chinese medicine research institute directly under the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, integrating scientific research, medical treatment and teaching. CACMS has a complete set of disciplines, advanced equipment and strong scientific research strength. It consists of 17 research institutes, 6 medical structures, 1 graduate school, 2 branch offices, 2 pharmaceutical companies, TCM Ancient Books Publishing House, and journal of traditional Chinese medicine. It has 6181 employees, 3,587 professional and technical personnel, 4 academicians, 5 masters of Chinese medicine, 26 chief researchers, and 6 national inheritors of material and cultural heritage projects. It has established three traditional medicine research centers with the World Health Organization, including Clinical Research and Information Cooperation Center, Acupuncture Cooperation Center, and Chinese Medicine Cooperation Center.
