“ALL Countries should work together to fight against the epidemic. China has always upheld the concept of building a community of shared destiny for mankind, and has timely released the epidemic information and shared experience in prevention, control and diagnosis of the pandemic with an open, transparent and responsible manner”. On March 17, when President Xi Jinping met with Pakistani President Arif Alvi in the Great Hall of the People, he expressed the strong will of contributing more to combat the global pandemic.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, with Xi Jingping as the commander and under his extraordinary deployment, China has given full play of its institutional advantage, curbing the spread of the epidemic with rapid action in a large-scale.

At the same time, President Xi has exchanged ideas frequently with foreign leaders of states international organizations. Repeated talks and phone calls have not only conveyed confidence to other countries of fighting the "epidemic" , but also shared Chinese experience, which have made more contributions to preventing the spread of the epidemic worldwide.

Experience of Building the Makeshift Hospital Which Is Worth Expanding Worldwide

On January 28, “COVID-19” epidemic in China was still spreading fast, and the prevention and control work was very severe. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus,  Director-General of the World Health Organization, visited China.

During his meeting with Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, President Xi Jinping firmly stated: "Under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, by giving full play of the advantages of the socialist system with Chinese characteristics and relying on the people firmly, with the concepts of strengthening confidence, helping each other in difficulties, conducting prevention and control work scientifically and implementing the policy precisely, we have full confidence and ability to win the fight against the epidemic."

Based on that concept, Xi jinping mapped out the epidemic prevention and control strategies, and commanded the following tasks as the top priority: improving the treatment rate and cure rate, reducing the rate of infection and mortality.

“We must adhere to principle that all the confirmed and suspected ones have to be admitted by the hospital.”

 “We need to better use makeshift hospitals by temporarily   expropriating hotels, training centers to increase the number of isolated beds, doing our best to admit and treat patients.

We need to conduct screening and identification, hospitalized all the confirmed patients, detect all the suspected patients and isolate all the close contacts.

An epidemic is an order, and prevention and control work mean responsibilities. 

From the night of Feb 3, Wuhan started to build the makeshift hospital; Feb 4, the first medical team arrived at the hospital, where the first batch of patients had been admitted; Feb 11, the first recovered 34 patients were discharged from the hospital; until Feb 18, Wuhan had started to use altogether 12 makeshift hospitals; On Feb 27, there were vacant beds which means the patients didn’t need to wait. Many patients danced, practiced aerobics and  Tai- Chi there.

Over the past 37 days and nights, more than 8,000 medical staff, supported personnel, and volunteers, accumulatively treated more than 12,000 patients. Every one in four patients in Wuhan received treatment in the makeshift hospital.“ Zero infection, zero death and zero re-admitted patient”. The makeshift hospital really matches the title "Ark of Life.”

At present, the pandemic situation is severe, and Chinese experience in fighting the “epidemic” has increasingly been recognized and used for reference by the international community. Iran announced to build makeshift hospitals in severely affected areas, each could accommodate dozens to 200 patients accordingly. Russia established makeshift hospitals in the outskirts of the capital Moscow to focus on treating possible community-infected people. The capital city Vienna of Austria stepped up to transform Vienna Exhibition Hall into a makeshift hospital to treat mild patients

On March 16, on the news conference held in Switzerland, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus , Director-General of the World Health Organization, said that, “ An urgent enough escalation in testing, isolation and contact tracing is  the backbone of the response.  It is high levels of political support, making sure that there’s an all-of-government approach. It’s not just the health sector. It is involving all different sectors of the government to repurpose themselves to fight this virus. WHO also suggested learning from the “makeshift hospital method” to isolate mild patients together.

Chinese doctors brave the dangerous situation to help foreign countries.

On March 13, Switzerland local time, WHO declared that Europe had already become the “epicenter” of COVID-19. Up to 8:00 am, March 18, Beijing time, the number of confirmed cases abroad had surpassed that of China. Among them, 31,506 cases were confirmed in Italy, 16,169 cases were confirmed in Iran, and 8,320 cases were confirmed in Korea ...

On the evening of March 16, Xi Jinping talked by phone with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, "China is willing to work together with Italy, to make contribution to the international cooperation against the pandemic and build a 'Healthy Silk Road.'" 

All the mankind is a community of shared destiny. Cooperation is the most powerful weapon to overcome pandemic for the safety of people all over the world.

On the evening of March 12, Rome local time, the Chinese medical expert team arrived in Rome, along with medical supplies such as ventilators, monitors, and defibrillators donated by China.

On March 13, the Chinese medical expert team discussed with local medical experts, and headed to the Italian Red Cross Emergency Center to have a better understanding of the situation. In the next few days, the expert team came to the advanced research institutes, hospitals, and the outbreak areas to communicate face-to-face with local medical staff.

Facing China's medical experts braving the dangerous situation, Di Maio, the Italian Foreign Minister, said that medical experts from China were the first group of people helping us to fight the pandemic, and they will bring experience to Italy.

On March 14 about 18:00 Rome local time, China’s national anthem "The March of the Volunteers "was resonated in a community in Rome, and citizens shouted loudly "Thank you, China."

  The Italians also posted messages online: "Thank you, China. Italians will not forget it."

Viruses know no borders, friendship, neither.

On March 17, Xi Jinping called Sanchez, Spanish Prime Minister: "Now the pandemic breaks out in many countries and at many cities, and China is willing to cooperate with all the  countries and provide assistance to the best of our ability".

Until now, China has assisted Iran with nearly 70,000 nucleic acid test kits, which has largely filled the gap of Iran. From February 29 to March 13, Iran's daily testing capacity increased from about 200 persons to around 6,000 persons.

On the evening of March 15, Serbian President Vucic declared that the country entered a state of emergency in response to COVID-19. At that night, a batch of nucleic acid test kits donated by China, arrived in the Serbian capital Belgrade. The Serbian President sincerely appreciated China, indicated that China is the only country provided assistance to Serbia.

Solidarity means strength! Upholding the concept of building a community of shared destiny for mankind, China is strengthening coordination and cooperation with many countries at the bilateral and international levels, to jointly safeguard global and regional public health security and protect the safety and health of the people of both countries and all over the world.

Integrating TCM with western medicine and using both TCM and western medicine drugs.

On March 2, Xi Jinping inspected the scientific research work on the prevention and control of COVID-19 in Beijing. He mentioned many ancient and modern medical books in China and other countries, and methods for preventing and controlling plague: The History of Han Dynasty records that "quarantine" is an important measure for pandemic prevention; in the mid Ming Dynasty, the "Human pox", vaccination for smallpox, appeared in China; at the end of the 18th century, British scientists invented “Cowpox”, the vaccination against smallpox ...

On March 2, researchers of the Academy of Military Medical Sciences were testing the stability and effectiveness of the drug, in the major pandemic emergency prevention and control drug laboratory.

Xi Jinping emphasized, to adhere to the principle of combine TCM and western medicine together, it is necessary to speed up the R&D process of drug, the promotion and application of effective drugs that have been developed and screened, At the same time screening a batch of effective drugs according to the needs of frontline, and exploring new treatment approach to decrease the number of mild patients turning into severe ones as far as possible.

Xi Jinping has repeatedly mentioned the integration of TCM and western medicine. On January 25 of the Standing Committee conference of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee chaired by Xi Jinping, emphasized the combination of TCM and western medicine for the prevention and control of the COVID-19 outbreak. After that, Xi Jinping has emphasized it again on various occasions such as coordinating pandemic prevention and control, economic and social development meetings, and on-site investigations in Beijing.

On March 17, the press conference of the joint prevention and control mechanism of the State Council introduced that in the fight against this pandemic, the wide and deep participation and highly anticipation of TCM have been unprecedented since the founding of the People's Republic of China.

As the increasingly severe pandemic globally, the experience of TCM fighting the "pandemic” has also been spread abroad, and received more and more attention and recognition from the international community. Many medical schools in Korea, Japan, Italy and other countries have written to China, consulting about TCM treatment experience, and the demand for TCM products in New York, San Francisco, Rome and other cities is increasing constantly...

A few days ago, in terms of drug screening research and development, China had announced the Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol for COVID-19 and drug screening results to the world, and key drugs such as Favipiravir and TCM drugs had been provided to the affected countries.

We shall help each other and work together to fight against the pandemic. The most precious experience China could  shared with the world is: "All the mankind is a community of shared destiny, only by working together can we cope with global risks and challenges."
