From September 29 to 30, 2022, organized by the WFAS, and jointly organized by the  Standardization Working Committee of WFAS and Luohu Hospital(located in Shenzhen) of TCM, the 2022 National-level Chinese Medicine Continuing Education The training course on "Application and Evaluation of International Standards and Guidelines for Acupuncture and Moxibustion" was successfully held online. 

The content of the training was mainly about the progress of international standardization research, the summary and experience sharing of the development methods of international standardization for acupuncture, and basic development steps of international standardization in ISO, WHO and WFAS. More than 150 related researchers and students were appealed to the course, which was hosted by Professor Yin Haibo, Deputy Secretary-General and Director of Academic Department of WFAS.

At the opening ceremony, Yu Xiaochun, Deputy Secretary-General of the Executive Committee and Chairman of the Standardization Working Committee of WFAS, delivered a speech to the training, which expressed warm welcome to the participants and sincere thanks to the experts for their hard work. At present, 189 countries are applying acupuncture and moxibustion, but the level of application is uneven. Therefore, it is necessary to develop international standards of acupuncture and moxibustion suitable for national conditions. Today, we have the honor to invite many famous experts to deliver this academic feast, to share their research methods and experience. I hope you found that useful. After that, the function of the Standardization Working Committee of WFAS will be given full play to provide support for the training of traditional Chinese medicine standard talents, and the series of lectures on the international standard of acupuncture and moxibustion will be continuously carried out to provide higher quality services.

During the training, Liu Baoyan, President of WFAS and CAAM, made "acupuncture and moxibustion standardization construction progress and the development of acupuncture and moxibustion science" keynote, showed the acupuncture and moxibustion for us international standard system framework, pointed out the research direction, and let all the students of acupuncture and moxibustion a new understanding of the development of the international standard significance and profound understanding of the mission and responsibility of engaging in the work of international standards of acupuncture and moxibustion. Prof. Nam Dongwoo, Director of Society of Korean Medicine and Vice President of Korean Acupuncture & Moxibustion Medicine Society, introduced the current status of research on South Korea standards for acupuncture and moxibustion taking the development of the Clinical Practice Guidelines for Korean Medicine for Chronic low back Pain Syndrome as an example. Prof. Liu Weihong, the main drafter of the national standard of "Qing moxa stick", brought the reflection on the development of the standard with the example of the national standard of Qing moxa stick. Prof. Sang Zhen, secretary general of ISO/TC 249, introduced the current status of research on international standards for TCM. Prof. Yang Jinsheng, Vice President of CAAM, shared the experience of developing the international standard international standards for Gua Sha instruments. Prof. Fang Fang, member of the Standardization Committee of WFAS, shared the experience of developing the international standard for skin needles (plum blossom needles). Prof. Liang Fengxia, the Vice Director and secretary general of Education Working committee of WFAS, introduced WHO benchmarks for the training of acupuncture. Prof. Liu Jia, Director of AMCTR of WHO, shared the development process and interpretation of the WHO benchmarks for the training of acupuncture. Prof. Wu Xiaodong, Deputy Director and Secretary General of Standardization Working Committee of CAAM, brought a survey of the international demand for Guideline for Clinical Practice with Acupuncture and Moxibustion. Prof. Zhao Hong, the member of Standardization Working Committee of CAAM, introduced the revision of international standards for acupuncture and moxibustion of WFAS. Prof. Zhang Yuqing, Visiting Professor of Institute of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, CACMS , discussed how to improve the applicability of Guideline for Clinical Practice with Acupuncture and Moxibustion. Prof. Chen Yaolong, Director of WHO Collaborating Centre for Guideline Implementation and Knowledge Translation, shared the methodology of developing international clinical practice guidelines in Chinese medicine. Prof. Lu Liming, PI of the Clinical Research and Data Laboratory of the South China Research Center for Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, talked about the development of RIGHT Acupuncture Extended Edition. finally, Prof. Zhao Jiping, member of the Standardization Working Committee of CAAM, shared his experience in the development of clinical practice guidelines for acupuncture for allergic rhinitis.

Through this training, participants had a deeper understanding of the status of international standards in acupuncture and moxibustion and further improved the development methodology. It is expected that in the future development work, they will be able to link theory with practice and apply the gains of this training to make a more scientific, standardized and rigorous standard development and revision. It is believed that in the near future, the development of international standards for acupuncture and moxibustion will promot the spread in the world and also the development of Chinese medicine with higher quality.
