WFAS Delegation attend the 70th World Health Assembly(WHA)

 The 70th WHA took place at Palais des Nations in Geneva from 22th to 31thf May, during which 3500 delegates from 194 Member States focused on hot issue on global public health “construct health-beneficial system in sustainable time”. The assembly elected Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus as new WHO Director-General and approved decisions on budget and public health. Director of National Health and Family Planning Commission of the PRC(NHFPC) headed Chinese delegation to attend the assembly. Observers from WFAS are Vice President Dong Hongguang from Switzerland, Vice President Aldo Liguori from Italy, Filomena Petti Executive Committee from Italy, Vice Secretary Hu Weiguo, Honorary Director of Working Committee of Foreign Affairs Wu Jibiao from Chfroma, Vice Director Liu Junhua from Chfroma, Committee Member Sergio Bangrazi from Italy, Vice Director of Workfromg Committee of ER Dr. Zhang Kaiwen from Malaysia.

Dr Margaret Chan, Director-General of WHO addressed at the opening ceremony that WHO stands for fairness and continue to make reductions in inequalities a guiding ethical principle. She pointed out that Member States should continue to strengthen systems for civil registration and vital statistics and continue to make accountability frameworks an integral part of global health strategies. Vaccine refusals are at least one reason why the tremendous potential of vaccines is not yet fully realized. Meanwhile, Safeguard WHO’s integrity in all stakeholder engagements. The Framework for engagement with non-state actors is a prime instrument for doing so. Many other UN agencies are following WHO’s lead with this framework.

The newly-elected Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is the first one from African area since the establishment of WHO in 1948. He committed to enhance leading leadership of the importance of strengthening countries' capacity to respond to health emergencies, be these disease outbreaks or humanitarian crises, as well as the need to put the well-being of women, children and adolescents at the center of health and development and to advance work on climate change and health, transition.of WHO. He will take up his new position on 1st July to succeed Dr. Margaret Chan from Hong kong who served as Director-General for ten years.


 

Head of Chinese government delegation and Director of NHFPC addressed at general debates on the theme “construction of health-benefiting systems in sustainable time” to introduce international cooperation and communications in fields of medicine and health care, experiences of implementation of IHR and international emergency cooperation and efforts and achievements of sanitation and health of Chinese government. She said that “ Chinese government has always attached great importance to prevention and promotion of people’s health. Basic medical insurance system for 1.3 billion people has been established though relentless efforts to improve the fairness, accessibility, quality and efficiency of medical service, laying a solid foundation for implementation of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

                                 

WFAS Observer, Honorary Director of Working Committee of International Communication, Shangdong University of Chinese Medicine, Wu Jibiao submitted Proposal of Promotion and Application of Acupuncture-Moxibustion and TCM in Primary Rural Areas. Taking Shangdong as a symbol, Wu introduced achievements of heavy promotion of Acupuncture-Moxibustion and TCM in primary rural areas and mature experiences and practices of Acupuncture-Moxibustion and TCM preventing human health, which arose broad interest of delegates from various states. During the assembly,Wu representing WFAS Working Committee of International Communication visited Department of Traditional Medicine of WHO and met with the Director Dr. Zhang Qi. Both sides discussed on implementation of cooperation programme plan for promoting appropriate techniques of Acupuncture-Moxibustion and TCM globally by WFAS Working Committee of International Communication, negotiated and reached primary agreement.

Vice Director of Working Committee of ER Dr. Zhang Kaiwen in Malaysia communicated with Minister of Health and Health Director of Malaysia Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Laion during the assembly on full assistance of the development of traditional medicine including acupuncture-moxibustion at home.

WHA is the highest decisive-making body of WHO, which is held annually in May at Palais des Nations in Geneva to discuss global health issues. WFAS, one of NGO Member Institutes o WHO, established official JR with WHO in 1988.
