Abstract: Objective: To observe the effects of electroacupuncture at Quchi(LI11) and Zusanli(ST36)on motor function and Nissl of cortex neurons in rats with unilateral focal cerebral infarction, and to explore its relationship with the recovery of motor function in rats. Methods: 60 male SD rats were randomly divided into the sham operation group (n=6) and the operation group (n=54).The operation group were under the operation of the right middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) by the modified Longa’ methods, and 48 qualified rats were randomly divided into the model group(n=24),and the electroacupuncture group(n=24).All subgroups were sacrificed at 6 rats when 3 days,7 days,14 days,28 days after the operation. The electro-acupuncture group received electroacupuncture at Quchi(LI11)and Zusanli(ST36)for 28 days. The neurological function and foot error test were examined at 1st , 3st, 7st, 14st, 28st day on all rats and detectedthe changes of the histopathology of injury by hematoxylin-eosin and Nissl staining. Results:Compared with the model group, the neurological deficit score in electroacupuncture groups were no diffiences after 1d and 3d(p>0.05).But both the scores of neurological function and root error test of rats in electroacupuncture groups were lower(p<0.05).Result from HE and nissl observation show that the damage neurons in group the acupuncture are lighter than non-acupuncture group at 3stday,and the nissl bodies begin to increasing at 14stday.there are significantly improve than non-acupuncture group at 3st and 28stday.Conclusion: Electroacupuncture not only increase the number of nissl bodies to protect the damaged nerve cells, but also maintain its steady cells’strusture, thus promoting the focal cerebral infarction, the recovery of motor function of rat.
