Tong Ren Tang's Free Clinic into Poland
On the early morning of October 10, a great number of local patients went to the head store of Beijing Tong Ren Tang (Poland) Co., Ltd. in Warsaw, capital of Poland, waiting to see a doctor. At nine o'clock, Chinese experts arrived at Tong Ren Tang punctually. Pro. Liu Baoyan, President of WFAS, Chairman of China Association for Acupuncture and Moxibustion (CAAM) communicated with patient Salas, then he grabbed several fine needles, heated the needles red on the fire and inserted the needles into the affected area on his arm, explaining that "these were fire needles with a function to unblock channels and invigorate blood". Argentina Ambassador to Poland also came out of his admiration for Chinese experts. Yang Jinsheng, Cashier of WFAS, inserted dozens of silver needles into his abdomen. After 20 minutes, pain resulting from chronic gastritis which has tormented this ambassador for more than 4 months was alleviated. Within 2 hours, 7 TCM experts altogether took nearly 50 patients' pulses and gave all of them a clear diagnosis and effective treatment.
This free clinic activity in Tong Ren Tang's head store in Warsaw was part of the "Exhibition of TCM acupuncture-moxibustion" Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity which was unveiled in Vistula University, Warsaw on October 10, meaning that WFAS B&R tour of acupuncture-moxibustion has officially entered Poland. Co-hosted by WFAS, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences (CACMS) and Confucius Institute of Krakow, Poland, this exhibition of TCM acupuncture-moxibustion presented the early history, diagnostic and treatment techniques, health preservation and modern development of TCM acupuncture-moxibustion to Polish people.
Xu Jian, Chinese Ambassador to Poland pointed out that acupuncture-moxibustion was being accepted by the world. There were doctors in Poland, treating diseases with acupuncture-moxibustion. Exhibitions and academic exchange activities of TCM acupuncture-moxibustion could deepen Polish people's understandings of Chinese history, culture and TCM acupuncture-moxibustion.
Malek Chalmers, Chairman of Polish Society of TCM (PSTCM) told our reporter that: "A growing number of Polish people have gotten to the fact that TCM is very effective and safe through the introduction of family members and friends. TCM could play a supplementary role in the treatment of many diseases that Western medicine cannot cure, like cancer. Therefore, the popularity of TCM and people's need for TCM are rapidly increasing."
Liu Baoyan expressed that acupuncture-moxibustion was widely applied in over one hundred countries for the treatment of more than 500 diseases. The efficacy of TCM treatment has gradually been proven by science. He hoped that acupuncture-moxibustion could be further promoted under the opportunity of "the Belt and Road" to benefit more people.
WFAS, CACMS and Confucius Institute of Krakow reached a cooperation agreement that day to develop more extensive cooperation in the fields of communication and promotion of TCM culture in central and eastern Europe and TCM education and training.
Chalmers believed that Western medicine's efficacy for some diseases was not satisfying and the cooperation between Chinese and Western medicine had a bright prospect. However, most Western medicine practitioners didn't know much about TCM. Chalmers pointed that "Tong Ren Tang and other TCM institutions in Europe should organize some seminars to communicate with Western medicine doctors to enhance their understandings of TCM. TCM could also participate in the seminars of Western medicine to realize the goal of combination of Traditional Chinese and Western medicine". (Reporter in Poland, Ji Peijuan)
